Works Section: Adding Series and Works

This guide covers the two most common setup actions in Opero:

  1. adding a new series
  2. adding work to that series

Use this when you are building a new body of work or migrating records from an older site.

Before You Start

Make sure you can open Admin and reach the Work area.

  • Owners and Editors can create and edit series and works.
  • If your role is Viewer, ask an Owner to grant edit access.

Add a Series

  1. Open Admin and go to Work.
  2. On the Series page, select Add Series.
  3. Fill in the core fields:
  • Title: the public-facing series name.
  • Slug: URL-safe identifier (letters, numbers, dashes).
  • Description: short context for visitors and curators.
  • Start year / End year: optional range for long-term projects.
  1. Save the series.

Series Tips

  • Keep titles stable once published.
  • Use one series per conceptual body of work.
  • If a series has no end date yet, leave End year blank.

Add a Work to a Series

  1. Open Work and switch to the Works page.
  2. Select Add Work.
  3. Complete work details:
  • Title
  • Year
  • Medium
  • Dimensions
  • Price or status, if you track sales context
  1. In the Series selector, choose the series you just created.
  2. Save the work.
  3. Add images immediately after saving so the work has a usable primary image.

Verify the Relationship

After saving:

  1. Filter the Works list by the series name.
  2. Confirm the new work appears in that filtered list.
  3. Open the work record and verify the selected series is still assigned.

Editing Later

You can change the series assignment at any time:

  1. Open the work from the Works list.
  2. Update the Series field.
  3. Save changes.

Common Problems

The series is not showing in the selector

  • Confirm the series was saved successfully.
  • Refresh the Works form and check again.
  • Verify you are in the same installation and not another demo environment.

The work saved but is not visible in the series filter

  • Check whether a different series is assigned.
  • Confirm filter text matches the series title.
  • Reopen the work and save once more if data was partially entered.

Recommended Workflow

For each new body of work:

  1. Create the series first.
  2. Add works and assign series as you go.
  3. Attach images right after each work save.
  4. Review the filtered list to ensure consistency.

This sequence keeps your archive clean and reduces rework when publishing.
